SUBJECT: Reed Richards
Name Reed Richards
Aliases Mr. Fantastic
Height 5' 11"      Hair Black      Eyes Brown
Ability to stretch his body to indeterminate lengths. This stretching appears to include the epidermis, muscle, bone and other tissue. When stretched, Reed sustains less damage from concussive injuries (for example, a punch) than when in his normal, 'unstretched' mode.
Fantastic Four finds Reed Richards trying to advance his scientific research by pursuing any means - having had his latest proposal turned down even by NASA's bigwigs, Reed must instead turn to an old colleague (or is that competitor?) for help: Victor von Doom. Reed and Victor were classmates at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology years ago, where Reed outstripped his peers with his intellectual achievements; however, these accolades alone have not lined Reed's pocket, which is why he pursues Victor to gain financial backing to study the effects of a cloud of cosmic radiation on organic matter.

Brought together by Victor's agreement to finance his research, Reed finds his life - and the lives of former flame Susan Storm, her brother Johnny, Reed's close friend Ben Grimm and even Victor himself - forever changed by the cosmic radiation, which mutates the DNA of everyone aboard Victor's space station during a trip to explore Reed's research. Outwardly, the only physical change Reed undergoes is the mysterious whitening of his sideburns. However, the mutation is more deeply rooted - he finds himself suddenly able to stretch his body to unknown limits.

With limbs like rubber bands, Reed is astounded by the group's newfound abilities; however, he is also overcome by guilt over the effects of the radiation on Ben, who has now become a living 'monster' trapped within his own freakish exterior. Although he builds a machine to reverse the effects of the mutation, Reed quickly takes his place as the leader of the "Fantastic Four" after the group realizes all the good their powers can do for fellow man.

It is Reed's constant pursuit of knowledge and his striving to use his intellect for the betterment of human life that draws the attention and love of Sue, and the admiration of his teammates in the 'Fantastic Four'.
